Webcam is not detected

My computer went down. It originally had Windows XP SP2 and AVG viru
protection. When I got it back, my friend had installed Windows XP SP
and Avast virus protection. Now my webcam is not detected by Skype o
chat rooms even after I downloaded a driver program from Creative lab
(webcam mfr.) , or after I downloaded a new Microsoft LifeCam program.
Any ideas would be appreciated

Joe, was Skype reinstalled?
